Match Report: Leicester Dynamite 108 – 34 Nottingham Hoods (U14 Boys)

The Nottingham Hoods U14s were back on the road this weekend, travelling to face Leicester Dynamite — the league’s in-form side and a team known for their height, athleticism, and relentless tempo. With Dynamite fielding a physically imposing starting 12, the Hoods knew they were in for a challenging afternoon.

Q1 – Tough Opening Against Height and Pressure

Leicester struck first straight from the tip. Hoods were able to respond on the third play drawing a foul and opening their account from the free-throw line. A high defensive line from Dynamite forced the Hoods into long-range attempts, and their inability to secure rebounds meant possession repeatedly slipped away.
Despite an early timeout to settle nerves, the Hoods continued to be closed out aggressively, losing the ball on attempts to play out of pressure. Whenever Hoods missed their shot, Leicester were quick to the rebound and scored on their next play.  By the mid-period swap, the Hoods were 21–1 down, the home side continued their run to close the quarter 39–1 ahead.

Q2 – Finding Rhythm and Showing Fight

The Hoods finally broke the scoring drought early in the second quarter via a technical foul free throw, followed shortly by their first basket from open play. A well-taken three-pointer gave the visitors a much-needed spark, and improved rebounding allowed them to push the ball up the court with more aggression — though Leicester’s shot-blocking remained a major obstacle.

A slick passing sequence around the paint opened another opportunity, resulting in a confident basket from the corner. The Hoods began to show much more intent on offence, using learnt plays to create space and matching Dynamite’s physicality where they could. Defensively, they battled well on the boards, but Leicester’s speed allowed them to intercept loose passes and punish turnovers. Another long-range three from the Hoods capped a more positive spell, though Dynamite still held a commanding 62–14 lead at halftime.

Q3 – Improved Competitiveness but Stiff Resistance

The Hoods emerged with renewed energy, competing far more effectively around the basket and forcing Leicester into longer-range efforts. A composed finish from open play added to the tally, and another strong passing move produced a clean score despite Leicester continuing to reply instantly in transition.

The hosts’ blend of height and speed proved difficult to contain, with the Hoods’ blocking schemes struggling to take effect. Leicester stretched the score to 92–22 by the end of the third period, but the Hoods’ fight and shot creation continued to improve.

Q4 – Persistence to the End

Leicester limiting the Hoods to long-range looks — one of which they converted with perseverance. Dynamite’s big men dominated the paint and drawing fouls inside, yet the Hoods continued to fight with a brilliant mid-court interception leading to a driving layup.

Another deep three from the Hoods showed their refusal to give in and got a round of applause from the referee!  The Hoods’ athletic play on interceptions allowed them to generate occasional fast-break chances, but consistent defensive pressure from the hosts meant opportunities remained limited. Despite their best efforts, the game ended 108–34 in favour of Leicester.

The final score doesn’t tell the whole story — the Hoods showed resilience, adaptability, and flashes of excellent play against one of the strongest teams in the league. Their determination and attitude remained unquestionable throughout.
